Southport Pier Tramway tramcar stabled withdrawn from service at the seaward end of the pier on 8th August 2015
The Southport Pier Tramway conveyed visitors, who did not wish to promenade the length of the pier, a journey along the centre of the pier of 1200 yards from the Promenade to the Pier Head. From the 1st August 2005 it had been operated by a two section articulated battery powered tram. The Tramway closed on 31st May 2015 due to the steel wheel on steel rail vibration adversely affecting the deteriorating Victorian cast iron pier structure. It has been replaced by a pneumatic tyred "land train", however on 8th August the tram was still on the pier, seen here stabled out of service at the Pier Head (the tide was out at the time!)
