34067 Tangmere approaching Rochester at speed Approaching Rochester approximately 5 minutes down.

A fine display at speed through Sittingbourne A fine display at speed through Sittingbourne - roughly on time thanks to a pathing stop in the loop at Newington.  The special was held on the Down Main whilst all passing service trains were routed on the Down Passenger Loop. This was not what was expected, however a down Faversham stopping train, due to follow the special, had been cancelled requiring the next Ramsgate/Dover service to make additional stops.

Blasting out of Priory Tunnel at Dover Blasting out of Priory Tunnel at Dover, by now approximately 30 minutes late.

Crowds thronging the harbour

Just a few people waiting then! Was it mentioned in the local press and/or on local TV? Thronging round all three sides of the harbour, a carnival atmosphere would have existed had it not been for the cold.

Tangmere descending the hill Will this be the last steam train to descend the hill from Folkestone East?  Will it be the last late-running steam train into the harbour station (it was still about 30 minutes down)?

Across the harbour viaduct

A classic shot. Since they were not Pullmans it is a shame about the
non-Southern colour of the coaches!

Across the viaduct between Folkestone East and Folkestone Central for the third time By the time the special made its third transit of the day across the viaduct between Folkestone East and Folkestone Central the light was deteriorating badly, though there was still blue sky and weak sunshine further west..... but this was the end of the chase for this photographer.
