The Class 07 was no stranger to the area, having been the diesel shunters on the once extensive Southampton Docks railway system, not to mention this one being the Eastleigh Works shunter for many years! The Class 07 greeted visitors to the Open Days, being situated by the entrance.

The diesel class most associated with the Southern Region is of course the BRCW Class 3, TOPS class 33, nicknamed "Cromptons" after the maker of their traction motors. Produced at a time many new diesel types were not successful, they were quite the reverse and a rewarding number still live on, not only on Heritage Railways but still earning a living on the National Rail Network.
