Other Diesels
Group of three Class 20s
When it comes to the railways of Britain I am first and foremost a Southern man, and then a coach and MU man. So the extensive display of "other" diesels was of interest, but it did not set my heart beating any faster! I know the Class 20s have a keen following, but I am afraid they do not do anything for me.

My only memory of class 31s in service was when in the early 1980s we went on a BR "Merrymaker" excursion from Kings Cross to York. My heart sank to see two class 31s on front of the Mk1s, and sure enough one of them failed by Retford and we were recessed there for an hour or so - some passengers actually started putting up notices in the coach windows saying "help- rescue us" - until a fitter arrived from Doncaster. Not the best way to start a day out. A class 47 hauled us back to London - much better.
