Two new plaforms had been built to the south of the station building but would be served from the old building by this pathway past the old goods (freight) shed By 2003 the Algarve Railway was being modernised and the station site at Lagos was being redeveloped. Two new plaforms had been built to the south of the station building but would be served from the old building by this pathway past the old goods (freight) shed. This would release a considerable plot of land to the east of the station for re-development.
